Leeds’ lengthy search for a new striker is finally over as Jean-Kevin Augustin was announced as a United player on Monday.
The Frenchman joins on an initial loan deal, but he could become a mainstay at Elland Road should Leeds get promoted this season.
What’s the story?
Bild are reporting that alongside the initial loan spell, the Whites are obligated to buy Augustin for €21m (£17.7m) if they are promoted.

With Leeds sitting second in the Championship it looks a distinct possibility that they will be plying their trade in the Premier League next term, and Augustin will be a part of that team if that is the case.
Unfortunately, this type of deal comes with a lot of risks attached.
Dangerous game
This is a dangerous game for Leeds to be playing.
There’s no guarantee that Augustin will be a success in the Championship, never mind the Premier League, and if he flops for the next few months and Leeds manage to go up despite that, they’ll have spent a huge wedge of their promotion windfall on a striker that simply isn’t good enough.
This is a man who scored just one goal in the entirety of 2019, and while he has scored top-flight goals on a semi-regular basis before, hitting nine in 2017/18 with RB Leipzig, the Frenchman hasn’t been able to recreate that form.
Signing Augustin as the man to fire you to promotion is a gamble, but agreeing to pay €21m (£17.7m) for him if you go up without even judging his performances in this system first is downright dangerous.
In other news, Phil Hay has relayed whether or not Leeds will be active again this month.
